Patrick Quinn
Patrick Quinn became the 41st Governor of Illinois after Rod Blagojevich’s impeachment. Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, Governor Quinn graduated from a Catholic high school and gained a bachelor’s degree from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Science and then a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
During his short time as Governor, Quinn is focusing his efforts on improving the economy in Illinois. He’s vetoed the budget bill twice in 2009 asking for a better effort in improving the budget gap.

Facts about Illinois’ Previous Governors
- Ninian Edwards was the first and only Governor of the Territory of Illinois and was the third Governor of the State of Illinois. His son, Ninian Jr., married Mary Todd Lincoln’s sister.
- John Wood, the 12th Governor of Illinois, built an octagonal home for himself and his son costing more than $200,000 in the 1800s, the most expensive house in Illinois during that era.
- Otto Kerner, the 33rd Governor of Illinois, went to jail in 1973 after being found guilty of bribery, conspiracy and perjury. He resigned before he could be impeached. Kerner was released before his three year jail term was up because he was terminally ill.
- Rod Blagojevich was impeached in 2009 after being arrested for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and soliciting bribes. The charges stemmed from Blagojevich’s actions to sell President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat.
